New resort-style accommodation villages on the way for the Pilbara’s FIFO workforce

The development of new villages for the FIFO workforce in the Pilbara region represents a significant advancement with the potential to improve living conditions for workers, increase productivity and reduce turnover rates.

The Pilbara region of Western Australia has long been a prominent hub for mining activity, with thousands of fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) workers travelling to the area for work. Until recently, the accommodations available for these workers has been limited, with many living in cramped, basic accommodation. That's set to change, as new resort-style accommodation villages are being built to cater to the Pilbara's FIFO workforce.

According to Techforce, the new accommodation villages are designed to provide a comfortable, modern living environment for FIFO workers, including those in rigger jobs and FIFO chef jobs, with private rooms for each worker in addition to amenities such as gyms and swimming pools plus communal areas for socialising and relaxing.

The new accommodation villages will bring several benefits for workers in positions including mining chef jobs as well as employers. Improved living conditions are expected to increased job satisfaction and a better work-life balance. The communal areas and social events will help to build a sense of community among workers, reducing feelings of isolation and loneliness.

Constructing these new accommodation villages are likely to lead to increased productivity and decrease staff turnover rates. By providing workers with comfortable, modern accommodation, employers can improve job satisfaction and reduce the likelihood of burnout or exhaustion.

Building these new accommodation villages is no small feat. The villages require a significant investment of time and money, with construction costs ranging into the millions of dollars. However, experts say that the investment is likely to pay off in the long run, as the improved living conditions are likely to lead to a happier, more productive workforce.

The new accommodation villages are likely to have a positive impact on the local economy too, creating jobs and generating revenue for local businesses. Techforce says the villages will also help to attract new workers to the region, as they provide a more appealing living environment than traditional FIFO accommodation.

Mining is one of the first industries people look at when they want to increase their income—fast. Maybe you’re coming from construction , logistics, warehousing, or a trade and thinking, If I’m working long shifts and doing tough work, I want the pay to reflect it. Or maybe you’re already in mining and you’re asking a different version of the same question: How do I level up from here? Which roles actually pay more—and what do I need to move into them? That’s why so many Australians search: what is the highest paying job in mining? Here’s the key: the highest pay in mining isn’t only tied to leadership titles. In many operations, the best-paid roles are the ones that are hard to fill, safety-critical, highly licensed, or technically specialised —especially on FIFO rosters, remote sites, shutdowns, and underground operations . At Techforce Personnel , we help people enter mining for better pay and help experienced workers progress into higher-paying roles across Australia. Below, we’ll break down the roles that often earn the most, what drives mining salaries, and realistic pathways to get there. What Is the Highest Paying Job in Mining (Really)? There isn’t one single role that is always the top earner across every mine site. Mining pay can shift depending on: commodity (iron ore, coal, gold, lithium, etc.) open cut vs underground operations site location and remoteness roster type (FIFO, DIDO, residential) overtime, allowances, and penalties how scarce the skill is (workforce demand) the licences, tickets, and safety responsibilities required So rather than chasing one “magic job title,” it helps to focus on the types of roles that consistently sit at the top end of pay: roles that combine scarce skills + high responsibility + tougher conditions .
