The Role
We are seeking an experienced Nuclear Safety Engineer with a focus on Nuclear Safety Management. You will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of nuclear systems, including radiation and nuclear processes, by applying system safety principles, producing safety cases, and making technical nuclear safety decisions.
This is a hands-on role requiring a deep understanding of nuclear safety, hazard analysis, and regulatory compliance within high-hazard and defence environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform nuclear safety management activities, providing technical guidance and making safety decisions.
- Prepare, review, and maintain safety documentation including Safety Case Reports, Hazard Logs, Hazard Analysis Reports, and Safety Assessment Reports.
- Conduct hazard analysis and risk assessments for nuclear systems, ensuring risks are ALARP/SFAIRP.
- Ensure compliance with nuclear safety legislation, Defence standards, and program system safety requirements.
- Support integration of nuclear safety into engineering design and delivery.
- Mentor and guide less experienced engineers, promoting a nuclear safety culture.
- Liaise with regulators, senior stakeholders, and cross-functional teams on nuclear safety matters.

- Proven experience in Nuclear Safety Management within a regulated or Defence nuclear environment.
- Strong understanding of radiation safety, nuclear processes, and hazard management.
- Knowledge of safety standards (e.g., IEC 61508, AS 4024, ISO 13849, DEF-STAN).
- Excellent problem-solving, stakeholder management, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a complex, high-hazard environment.
This role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance .
