The Opportunity
We are partnering with a Tier 1 Defence Prime to recruit a unique Engineering Leader. This is not your standard desk-based design role; this is a position for a Technical Leader who is passionate about mentoring, coaching, and developing people.

You will act as the "Technical Captain" for a cohort of Early Career Professionals (Graduates, Trainees, and Apprentices). Your role is to bridge the gap between Project Delivery and People Development—ensuring your team delivers critical engineering work packages while you guide their professional growth.

What You Will Do
It is a 50/50 split between Technical Governance and Leadership:
  • Lead & Mentor: Act as the direct Line Manager for a cohort of Engineering Graduates. Manage performance, career planning, rotations, and pastoral care.
  • Project Delivery: Oversee the delivery of Engineering Work Packages assigned to your cohort, ensuring they meet Scope, Budget, and Schedule targets.
  • Governance: Ensure all engineering output meets strict Defence technical integrity, safety, and seaworthiness standards.
  • Coordinate: Plan meaningful rotations across the business to ensure graduates gain the right exposure to become Chartered Engineers.
What youll bring:
You are likely an experienced Project Engineer, Work Package Manager, or Engineering Team Lead who has realized that their greatest strength lies in building teams.
  • Experience: Proven background in Engineering Project Delivery (managing work packages, earned value, or technical scope).
  • Industry: Experience in Defence, Maritime, Rail, or complex Heavy Industry is essential.
  • Leadership Style: You have high emotional intelligence (EQ). You know how to have difficult conversations, coach underperformance, and celebrate success.
  • Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or Project Management.
What's in it for you?
  • Legacy: You aren't just delivering a project; you are building the future engineering workforce for Australia’s sovereign defence capability.
  • Variety: Every day is different—balancing technical project controls with human leadership.
  • Stability: Join a long-term sustainment program with decades of work ahead.
