Our client is an established Tier 2 mining contractor delivering large-scale open pit production services across Western Australia. With a strong pipeline of work and long-term contracts in place, they are seeking an experienced HSE Manager to lead safety performance across active production operations.
This role requires a leader who understands that safety is not just compliance -it is critical to production continuity, workforce engagement, and commercial performance.
The Role
Reporting into senior leadership, you will take ownership of site HSE performance across mining production activities. This is a hands-on leadership role, balancing Strategic oversight with strong on-site presence.
- Production-Focused Safety Leadership: Partner closely with Mining Managers and Superintendents to embed safety into load & haul, drill & blast, and crushing operations
- Risk Management: Move beyond LTIs - identify, assess, and manage operational and critical risks that impact people, production, and equipment
- Systems & Reporting: Oversee and optimise HSE systems, with a strong focus on MIOHS / INX platforms for incident management, compliance, and data-driven decision making
- Audit & Assurance: Lead site audits, inspections, and verification activities - proactively identifying gaps before they become issues
- Incident Management: Drive high-quality investigations (ICAM or equivalent), ensuring learnings are embedded across crews
- Stakeholder Engagement: Influence at all levels - from operators on the ground to senior leadership - building a strong, accountable safety culture
- Continuous Improvement: Champion initiatives that improve both safety outcomes and operational efficiency
You are a seasoned HSE leader with a strong background in mining production environments. You understand the realities of site and can balance safety with operational demands.
- Proven experience as an HSE Manager / Senior HSE Leader within open pit mining production
- Strong working knowledge of MIOHS and INX systems (InControl, InTuition, etc.)
- Demonstrated experience supporting production crews, not just construction or project scopes
- Solid understanding of WA mining legislation and regulatory requirements
- Strong capability in risk management, investigations, and audit processes
- Confident communicator who can engage with both site crews and senior leadership
- Proactive mindset - you lead from the front and drive outcomes on site
- Base: Perth based office
- Travel: Regular site visits (WA wide) are required to audit performance and drive culture. You cannot manage risk from a spreadsheet; you need to see the reality on the ground!
- Competitive salary package aligned with the importance of the role
- Direct influence on site culture, safety performance, and operational outcomes
- Opportunity to play a key role within a growing, well-established mining contractor
