Key Responsibilities
As the Lead Mechanic, you will:

  • Diagnose and complete breakdown repairs efficiently to minimise operational downtime.
  • Follow manufacturer recommendations and industry best practices for servicing and repairs.
  • Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability and efficiency.
  • Manage water extraction reporting requirements, including Bore Extraction Limits (BEL) and bore draw-down monitoring.
  • Maintain appropriate stock levels of spare parts, lubricants, and workshop consumables through regular stocktakes and cost-effective purchasing.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and secure workshop, ensuring tools and equipment are accounted for and stored correctly.
  • Maintain equipment operating manuals and assist with record keeping using SharePoint and the Fixed Asset Register.
  • Provide recommendations on equipment condition and capital replacement planning.
  • Coordinate and supervise contractors undertaking specialised repairs and ensure all Authority to Commence Work procedures are followed.
  • Ensure machinery, tractors, implements, and associated equipment are operated and maintained within recommended guidelines.
  • Assist with maintaining the SDS register and ensure hazardous materials and waste are handled in accordance with environmental and manufacturer requirements.
  • Support Quality Assurance (QA), Environmental, and Work Health & Safety (WHS) systems and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Promote safe work practices and assist managers in ensuring compliance with WHS requirements across all farm operations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce maintenance costs, minimise waste, and improve equipment utilisation.
  • Support staff training and the safe operation of machinery across the farm.
  • Foster positive communication, teamwork, and a culture aligned with company values.
  • Undertake other duties as directed by the Farm Manager.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • Trade qualification as a Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining agricultural machinery, heavy equipment, or similar plant.
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance systems and maintenance record keeping.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement and cost management.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with farm management and staff.
  • Commitment to workplace safety, environmental compliance, and quality standards.
  • Experience supervising contractors or leading maintenance activities is highly regarded.
